Iphone Contact List Layout Issues!!!!?

-i just got my iphone, and when i synced it to my itunes, i accidentally backed it up with my ipod touch. Now my contact list is listed without the tiny A-Z letters on the side and its just a plain list with no sorting headers A-Z. WHAT CAN I DOO!!!
